Albuquerque - Tentative itinerary for October to November

Above is a general map of Nepal. Below this post is a more detailed map with Kathmandu and and region around Everest.

A tentative itinerary for the Nepal leg of the trip (October thru November) is currently looking something like this:

- leave Los Angeles for Kathmandu, Nepal on October 11th (my birthday!), arrive October 13th

- meet Micah Jessup and the rest of the party on the 15th and 16th when they arrive - - pending Maoist activity and the possibility of strikes, which can shut down major roadways and business, such as the strike that is happening right now: http://www.iht.com/articles/540889.html (article from the International Herald Tribune on the current strike; for more information, search "Maoists" on Google News http://news.google.com)

- leave for the Khumbu region (near Everest, see map!) by flying to Lukla on the 20th or so out of Kathmandu

- trek thru the Khumbu and accomplish whatever geologic research goals Micah Jessup has planned (as yet to specified by him . . .)

- return to Lukla in mid to late November and possibly Kathmandu again.

Next time: tentative itinerary for November to December - - possible travel to the state of Sikkim in India, or the city of Darjeeling, state of West Bengal . . . a tea-drinker's paradise . . . OR strike southwestward and perhaps take a boat ride down the Ganges River to help with some radio journalism!
